Firm faces rap for illegal quarrying in Dumarao
ROXAS CITY – A business firm and its driver are now facing charges for violation of Section 103, Republic Act 7942 otherwise known as “The Philippine Mining Act of 1995” for allegedly conducting an illegal quarrying recently at Calagman River, Brgy. Astorga, Dumarao, Capiz.
Engr. Edgar Agana, OIC-provincial engineer and head of Mines Geoscience Development Service Unit, office of the governor, said that he and elements of the Capiz Provincial Police Office (CPP0) apprehended two units of pay loader and driver in the person of Nestor de la Cruz of Bagong Barrio, Tapaz, Capiz.
The said two units of pay loaders are owned by Mr. Felix Gurrea of Brgy. Abito, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
Agana said that De la Cruz was apprehended by the composite team at around 2:30 p.m on March 4, 2010 at the said place while extracting mineral without pertinent permit which in violation of the Mining Act of 1995.
On the other hand, De la Cruz in his 2-page affidavit, admitted that he committed extracting mineral at the said place without permit.
The pay loader was supposed to be impounded at Dumarao PNP Station, however Dela Cruz requested to surrender his driver’s license in exchange of the said pay loader.
The affidavit was signed by De la Cruz and Miguel Alianza, Brgy. Kagawad of Astorga as witness.
