Lola, 68, receives high school diploma
Indeed, nobody is too old to learn.
A 68-year old grandmother proved this by graduating from high school in Leganes town, Iloilo very recently.
Julieta Diaz, also known as Nanay Lita, to his classmates, received her diploma after several years of trying to complete his secondary education.
“Ang edukasyon, indi gid pag-untatan kay dira gid ang ila buwas-damlag nabutang. Kay ako gani basi tigulang na ko sige pa ang pag-eskwela ko para magta-as man ang pagtulok ko sa kaugalingon ko kag pagtulok man sang iban,” she told GMA TV-6.
It was gathered that Julieta stopped attending school after completing her fifth grade.
Just like her peers, she reasoned poverty as the main reason for her dropping out.
On top of that, Julieta said that her father also died.
She narrated that it was so hard for her to continue school since Brgy. Lapayon, her residence, is far from the Leganes Central School in Leganes town proper where she attended school.
Julieta said that she had to endure going to school on foot everyday.
“Pag-abot to kay waay man ko balon, gutom ko, katulugan ko sa eskwelahan. Ti, papali-on naman ako sang maestra,” she claimed.
Several years later, Julieta got married and bore two children.
Despite tending to her family, the mother and wife said that she did not all throughout put off her hope of continuing school.
In 1997, Julieta decided to get the Philippine Education Placement Test where she passed and was accelerated to first year high school.
She studied at Fort San Pedro National High School in Iloilo City but only finished her first year.
After several years, she again took an examination and was assessed to join the third year high school student but Julieta finished that school year.
Last year, she got an accreditation and was promoted to fourth year high school.
“Sa mga exam, taas pa na ang iya result. Manami gid na sa iya kay mapisan. May patience gid,” said Kriesha Ma Jaruda, Julieta’s high school adviser.
But apparently, Julieta’s goal did not stop there.
She is bent on getting a college diploma.
“Kung tagaan ko sang tsansa sang kapalaran, maski makatapos ko computer (course) nga 2 years lang, okay na ina,” she said.
