LP calls for vigilance vs. poll cheating
ROXAS CITY – Liberal Party (LP) stalwarts called on the voters to be more vigilant and warned that the first ever poll automation in May 10, 2010 is still vulnerable to cheating.
Mr. Avelino Cruz, Jr., chair of Bantay Balota, said that they are worried about the forthcoming election as it is like the 1986 election in which many election fraud took place such as ballot snatching, gun pointing etc.
According to him, the LP found out that the official ballots printed by the Commission on Election (COMELEC) national office are not safe. For instance, the official ballots should be exclusively read by the PCOS machine however, even fake official ballots could be read by PCOS machine.
Cruz, along with Mr. Butch Abad, LP’s campaign manager and Mr. Cesar Purisima, said in presscon at Gerry Roxas Foundation (GRF) last Saturday, that LP’s standard bearers: Noynoy Aquino and Mar Roxas, president and vice president, respectively are leading on the surveys, thus ballots should be watched during election.
“This is not partisan activity as we even do not trust the Comelec and anybody but ourselves,” Cruz warned.
According to him, the COMELEC is yet to accredit the NAMFREL and PCCRV to be the watchdog of ballots during election.
Also attended during the press conference were: Mrs. Joan Dadivas, wife of Vice Mayor Ronnie Dadivas, Capiz Provincial Press Bureau led by its Bureau Chief Edward Basilonia, local tri-media and among others.
