All set for NOHS Grand Alumni Homecoming 2010
Everything has been readied for this year’s Grand Alumni Homecoming of the Negros Occidental High School which is expected to be doubly exciting with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the NOHS Alumni Association this coming April 24, 2010.
NOHS Batch ’85 is this year’s host and had prepared exciting numbers and events to honor graduates of one of the oldest institution in the province particularly the Golden Jubilarians of Batch ’60 and the Diamond Jubilarians of Batch ’45.
Batch ’85 Alumni President, Frederick Ballesteros said they are expecting classmates to come home for the grand reunion from the United States, Switzerland, the Middle East and some parts of Asia to add color and excitement to the affair.
Ballesteros said the homecoming celebration will kick off on April 22 with a mass at the NOHS chapel followed by a wreath-laying ceremony and the awarding of winners of the annual bowling tournament.
The NOHS Alumni Association will also be hosting cocktail reception to commemorate their 50 years of existence and service to all graduates of NOHS.
The highlight of the affair though will be on April 24 with a Motorcade at 7:00 a.m. and Ballesteros said they are encouraging all batches to participate with their floats. He also said that they have coordinated with the local police to ensure the safety of the participants amidst disinformation from some sectors who have been texting some batches of changes in schedules.
“Rest assured that we have the local authorities backing us up and we have reported the matter to them regarding some text messages circulating misleading the people and trying to discredit the organizers,” he added.
This year’s highlight will include presentations from Batch ’85 as well as the much-talked about “Decades of Dances” featuring numbers from various batches of the popular dance craze during their time.
Batch ’85 class valedictorian, Monina Faunlague will be this year’s homecoming speaker and major awards will also be given by the alumni association to successful graduates who have given honor to NOHS through civic and professional contribution.
NOHS was established in 1902 and was run then by American educators till its turn-over to local Filipino teachers. Their roster of graduates includes famous personalities such as former congressman and Manila Mayor Ramon Bagatsing, former cabinet Sec. Haydee Yorac, lawyers Pompeyo Querubin and William Mirano among others.
This year’s program will be hosted by Batch ’85 graduates, journalist Mate’ Espina and former military spokesperson, Col. Mike Samson.
