Majority of Capiz mayors snub 109th foundation day opening
ROXAS CITY – Despite the plea Gov. Victor Tanco, Sr. for all mayors to set aside politics and unite in celebration of the province’s birthday, majority of the mayors boycotted the occasion.
The opening celebration also appeared politicized as most participants wore yellow and blue dresses which are the colors of the Noynoy Aquino-Mar Roxas tandem.
Tanco said that his office sent letters of invitations to all mayors, however, only few honored the invitation.
“Let’s us set aside partisan politics which divide us, we have to unite for Capiz birthday as we are proud of being Capiceños,” Tanco said earlier.
Among those spotted during the opening salvo were: Pilar Mayor Ritalyn Patricio, several board members who are pro-administration, and Department of Tourism Regional Director Edwin Trompeta.
The United States Philippine Commission, through Act No. 1115 titled ‘An act extending the provisions of the provincial government of Capiz,” established the provincial government of Capiz on April 15, 1901.
This year, the provincial government has lined up a series of activities for the celebration, which has been dubbed as CAPIZtahan since 2008.
