Noynoy, Mar to grace Pres. Roxas’ 62nd death anniv today
ROXAS CITY – Liberal Party (LP) presidential candidate Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, and vice presidential candidate Sen. Mar Roxas will grace the commemoration of 62nd death anniversary of the latter’s grandfather President Manuel Roxas today which is a non-working holiday in Capiz.
Republic Act No. 9217 of the House of Representatives also declared April 15 of every year as President Manuel Acuña Roxas Memorial Day and designated it a special non-working holiday for the entire province of Capiz and Roxas City in honor of Roxas, the first President of the Philippine Republic and the last President of the Commonwealth.
Roxas died of heart attack on April 15, 1948 at Clarks Air Field while delivering an impassioned speech in defense of democracy.
For this year, April 15 falls on a Thursday.
The Capiz provincial board on Feb. 21, 2003 also passed Ordinance No. 02-S-2003 declaring April 15 of every calendar year as the “Foundation Day of the Province of Capiz and to celebrate said occasion with a fitting activity.”
Aquino and Roxas will arrive at the Roxas City airport in the morning and will proceed to the president’s monument at the city plaza where the wreath laying at around 9 a.m. will be held as part of commemoration to be attended by their political allies.
After attending the commemoration, the entourage will proceed to Villareal Stadium where thousands of supporters await them.
Aquino and Roxas are expected to have sorties from neighboring provinces after the occasion in Roxas City and Capiz where Capiz is currently celebrating 109th founding anniversary and International dance exchange.
