Village chief vacates post after losing case
A barangay captain of San Dionisio town, Iloilo was told to vacate his post after losing his case with the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Observers also believed that the decision of the Comelec en banc might also affect the candidacy of Eugenio Eusebio Lopez of Brgy. Bagacay, San Dionisio who is running in the mayoralty race against Larry Villanueva, son of incumbent mayor Pio Villanueva, and Dr. Edwin Fegura.
The writ of execution, which was forwarded to the Comelec San Dionisio last Monday, ordered Lopez to vacate his post as barangay captain.
The case stemmed from a disqualification case filed by Lopez’s opponent, Tessie Villanueva, sometime in 2007 during the barangay polls.
Villanueva questioned the citizenship of Lopez, who reportedly holds a dual citizenship.
“The Comelec orders Mr. Lopez to cease and desist from performing the job of a barangay captain,” said Comelec municipal officer Lory Aspero.
It was gathered that when the letter was served to Lopez, he was not around.
Instead, his mother Viola received the letter from the Comelec.
Meanwhile, Lopez claimed that nobody could be behind the latest move against him except his political opponents.
“This is politically-motivated. Basta nagapadalagan ka gani, bisan ano mo kaayo nga tawo, there is always an evil behind the scene,” he claimed.
But Lopez vowed to prepare their legal actions over the recent decision.
He claimed, though, that they are ready to follow the Comelec’s decision.
“Anytime, I will vacate my position as long as it is legally-ordered by the Comelec,” he added.
Meanwhile, Municipal Local Government officer John Rose Espigoy already swore into office Josephine Francisco, the number 1 elected barangay kagawad of Bagacay.
