Grenade ‘tossed’ at defeated bet’s house
Police investigators are yet to disclose the motive and the suspects behind the alleged grenade throwing incident at the house of a defeated councilorable at Zone 6, Brgy. Calumpang, Molo, Iloilo City.
The grenade, which fortunately did not explode, was found at around 7:00 in the morning of Saturday at the compound where Jose Marte Nava lives.
It was gathered that a certain Nonoy picked up the grenade.
At first, he claimed that he did not entertain the idea that the “thing” he got in front of their house could explode.
At first, Nonoy said that he thought that it was just a toy.
“Pagkakita ko, ginpudyot ko eh. Ginlantaw ko. May wiring pa nga naka attach sa granada. Gindala ko sa kusina, ginpakita ko sa mga upod ko. Paglantaw ko, bug-at ni. Indi ni hampanganan. Ginbalik ko sa puno sang chico,” he claimed.
Another family member called for police assistance.
It was learned that the explosive’s safety pin was recovered just a few meters from the grenade.
If indeed the grenade was thrown at the Nava’s property, police are yet to determine if it was meant to harm Jose Marte or anyone from his family.
Police could not rule if the incident has something to do with politics since Nava was defeated and was only running for the city council.
Aside from Jose Marte, two other Navas run for the same position.
One of them, Plaridel, managed to hang on the last slot for the city council post.
Aside from politics, police investigators are also considering personal grudges as motive of the incident.
