Gov’t agencies to get update on power conservation
The Regional Directors and Administrative Officers of national government agencies will meet May 19, to get updates on the implementation of activities and programs to achieve energy savings.
The Department of Energy (DOE) and the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), lead convenors for the advocacy on Government Energy Management Program (GEMP), said the gathering will hammer the point that energy efficiency and conservation should be a way of life.
This is under the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Program (NEECP) launched by President Arroyo in August 2004 to cushion the impact of increases in prices of petroleum; promote cost avoidance/savings on fuel and electricity without sacrificing productivity; to get firm savings commitments from identified sector groups; and, to help protect the environment.
The NEECP also seeks to achieve a total energy savings of 34 MMBFOE in the ten-year period, or a reduction of 15.7 percent in oil importations and forex savings of $11.60 billion; and to achieve 50,860 Gg CO2 equivalent emissions avoidance.
The half-day seminar will orient the participants on the program to refresh them for the conduct of Spot Check of government buildings pertinent to their level of compliance of Adm. Orders 110, 120 and 183.
Other than an orientation on the GEMP, the briefing will also include a talk on the Alternative Fuels Program, a telling of success stories from implementers and an open forum.
The team of lecturers is composed of Crizaldo Santos, Science Research Specialist II, Elma Karunungan, Alternative Fuels Div. Chief, and Dir. Evelyn Reyes, Energy utilization Manager, DOE. (PIA6/ESS)
