UI’s College of Nursing still on track
University of Iloilo-Phinma Education Network clarified that its College of Nursing is still operating contrary to an earlier report that it is one of the 147 nursing courses facing closure by Commission on Higher Education (CHED) because of poor performance.
Dr. Arnold Anceno, Education Supervisor on Health Related Program of UI, said what was given to them by CHED was only a “warning”, not a closure of its College of Nursing.
He said, since the acquisition by Phinma Education Network of UI from the Lopezes various improvements have been made on the university, from physical infrastructures to its academic offerings. Anceno said, one of the academic programs that were given a boost was the College of Nursing whereby new curriculums were introduced and competent teaching staff was hired.
Anceno added that the new UI management believes in the maximum utilization of potentials of all students seeking affordable nursing education through innovative teaching strategies, imposition of discipline, student-centered learning and actual clinical experience at all levels of health care (preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative) in all health settings.
“The College of Nursing is undergoing some schemes for improvement like the diagnostic test, intensive review, in-house review, and on-going monitoring on nursing students to closely monitor their developments,” added the new College of Nursing dean Myrla O. Mabalhin, Ed.D.
Earlier, CHED publicized a list of public and private schools that face closure of their nursing courses after their graduates performed below the national passing percentage rate of 46.14 for the past five years.
