Bermejo gives up P30M flood control to DPWH
ROXAS CITY – Outgoing City Mayor Vicente Bermejo gave up the P30 million flood control projects for the city and urged the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) regional office to do its implementation.
In his two-page letter request dated May 20 to the Sangguniang Panglungsod (SP) members through Councilor Gregorio Arcenas, co-Chairman, Committee on Infrastructure, Public Works & Beautification, Bermejo asked the august body to revoke, withdraw, cancel and declare null and void the resolution issued by it authorizing him to enter into Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the DPWH.
According to the mayor, the said project has not started yet until this date and his term of office will expire this June 30, 2010.
“There has been too much delay in the implementation of the projects because of the documentary requirements that have to be complied by the parties,” Bermejo said.
He added that since the projects have to be immediately implemented to benefit the people of Roxas City, for the purposes of expediency and faster completion thereof, it would be best that the same projects be actually and directly implement by DPWH regional office.
Bermejo also said that the delay in the implementation will additionally be incurred if the subject projects be implemented by his office considering the number of projects and the scope of works that they entail. He added that such delay will deprive the people of the city the projects that they are supposed to timely benefit.
Last year, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, in her presidential visit, graced the ground breaking of the said P30 million flood control which also attended by DPWH regional director Rolando Asis and other public officials.
The said drainage system to be constructed are: Cadimajan River to Capricho II to Sitio Kalubihan, Brgy. Tanqu; Imberayan Creek to Arnaldo Blvd. to Brgy. Baybay; Cudimajon River (San Roque St.) to New Road, Brgy. Inzo Arnaldo; San Roque Ext. to Fuentes Drive to Hemingway St., Brgy. I-IX;
Other drainage system are: Gov. Atila Balgos to Capiz East Road to Perfect Image Hotel, Banica; Sitio Kalipayan, Banica; and Rehab/improvement of Existing Open Drainage Canal at Malipayon Village to Sumiga Creek, Tiza this city.
The said letter request was acted upon by the august body on Tuesday regular session.
