BFP to inspect schools too
ROXAS CITY – Six schools in the city have been checked by a team of firemen from the Office of the City Fire Marshal of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Roxas City in view of the forthcoming school opening this June.
The initiative aims to immediately correct the deficiencies that maybe discovered by the inspection teams.
“We check all the fire safety requirements of school buildings such as exit signs and fire extinguishers,” said BFP – Roxas Fire Arson Investigator and Public Information Officer (PIO) Chief FO2 Marlon Garbo.
The schools that were inspected were Filamer Chrisitan College, Capiz State University (CapSU) – Roxas City and Dayao campuses, Saint Anthony College, Colegio dela Purisima Concepcion (CPC) main and engineering campuses, Tanque National High School and Hercor College.
In a directive to BFP Director Rolando M. Bandilla, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) DILG Undersecretary for Public Safety Marius Corpus said the fire bureau should immediately start their inspection of schools and other establishments to give the concerned establishments adequate time to set up the necessary fire equipment and comply with fire safety standards in time for the opening of classes next month.
“Any structure or establishment that is found to be operating without the mandatory fire safety requirements and in clear violation of the Fire Code of the Philippines and the authority of the BFP must be charged in the proper court.” he said.
The directive also covers the inspection of commercial establishments, sleeping quarters like dormitories, hotels, inns, hospitals, residential places, food court and factories with highly flammable materials like foam, tires, gasoline depot. (PIA/A.Lumaque)
