DOH-CHD 6 to strengthen oral health program
The Department of Health-Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) 6 is strengthening its oral health program in order to also benefit the elementary school children.
DOH-CHD 6 regional director Ariel Valencia said that right now, their beneficiaries are the preschoolers, pregnant women and the elderly, but they found out that there are also a lot of grade school children who are having oral health problems.
Thus, the DOH-CHD 6 is now advocating for the universal oral health coverage.
Dr. Claud Divinagracia, DOH-CHD 6 regional oral health coordinator, said that as part of their oral health program, they will be conducting information and education campaigns and dental health activities in the different schools in time for the opening of classes.
In the DOH-CHD 6 information and education drive, the dentists and other health personnel will be discussing among the pupils and their parents the importance of eating a balanced diet, correct eating habits, practice of good oral hygiene and paying periodic visits to dentists.
Dr. Divinagracia added that it is very important for the pupils to have good oral hygiene because dental health greatly affects their attention span and attendance in school. (PNA)
