Mentally-ill man goes unruly, stabs himself dead
A man suffering from nervous breakdown died due to stab wounds Thursday evening while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Iloilo City.
Before that, 51-year old Vladimir Ochan allegedly went unruly while inside their house at Brgy. Hibao-an, Pavia, Iloilo Thursday afternoon,
According to PO3 Elmer Cordero, the victim was alone in their house while holding two knives.
A bolo was also placed nearby.
A negotiation occurred with the victim naming his demands.
He even asked for the presence of his friend, a policeman of the Mandurriao Police Station in Iloilo City.
“We also called for his friend but he still did not budge in to surrender to us,” Cordero said.
Lately, police claimed that they have to use reasonable force to subdue the unruly Ochan who was stabbing himself.
After which, he was rushed to Western Visayas Medical Center for treatment but died an hour later.
Meanwhile, responding policemen noted that the house was also in total disarray as the victim was doing some berserk stuff.
At around 11:00 a.m., one of the neighbors claimed that they had to call for assistance from the Bureau of Fire Protection because Ochal also tried to set their house on fire.
But his arson plan was foiled although BFP members had to order to dismantle some parts of the house.
Last Tuesday, Ochan’s brother also brought him to the police station, as he showed signs of mental instability.
But the plan to bring him to a mental institution was not pursued for some undisclosed reasons.
