Inmate attempts suicide
A prisoner of the Dingle Police Station was rushed to the hospital after he tried to take his own life Thursday morning.
Dionelo Sayosa, 54, of Brgy. Licu-an, Dingle, Iloilo tried to hurt himself after knowing that he will be remitted to another jail facility because of another case that happened 14 years ago.
Sayosa dismantled a portion of a bench inside his prison cell. The wood has a nail set in its tip.
He then used it to strike his own head.
Despite suffering from 13 injuries, Sayosa refused the policemen’s appeal for him to be brought to the hospital.
While holding on to the wood, he asked for the presence of his cousins.
It was gathered that Sayosa is a widower and his five children are all staying in Metro Manila.
Later, his niece, a certain Norma Pecases, arrived and assured her uncle that they would help to bail him out.
After more than 3 hours of negotiation, the suspect let go of the wood and went with the police operatives to have himself treated.
It was gathered that Sayosa was detained last Sunday after his brother-in-law complained him for grave threats.
While in detention, police learned that the suspect has a pending arrest warrant for two counts of direct assault upon an agent in person of authority with a bail of P5,000 each.
The incident happened last 1996 when Sayosa allegedly attacked the then chief of police of Dingle town.
“Pagkabalo niya nga ipa-medical siya kag i-remit siya sa BJMP sa Passi City, nagbatyag sang kakulba. Amo to nga nag-attempt sang suicide,” a member of Dingle PNP said.
Even the suspect exonerated the PNP for his attempted suicide.
He claimed that he did it because of the criminal charges he is facing.
