Aklan SP holds valedictory session, briefing for newcomers
KALIBO, Aklan — Five Sangguniang Panlalawigan members, all of them from the western side of Aklan, will be given the privilege to deliver their valedictory address on June 16.
Outgoing three-termer SP members Plaridel Morania, Jose Yap and Pedro Garcia are all leaving at the end of June 30. They have been in the Aklan Sangguniang Panlalawigan since 2001.
Two SP members–Wilbert Ariel Igoy, who won the Malinao mayoralty election and losing reelectionist Ramon Gelito are also scheduled to deliver their farewell speeches.
Out to listen to the swan songs of ‘retiring’ legislators are Sangguniang Panlalawigan member freshmen. The class, which includes an outgoing mayor and the two sons and a daughter of former Aklan governors, will meet each other and learn the ropes in the Aklan SP for an orientation and briefing.
Phoebe Clarice Cabagnot of Partidong Masang Pilipino (PMP), daughter of the late Aklan Governor Corazon Legaspi-Cabagnot, is among a record three women in this year’s 13-member SP Aklan. Lakas-Kampi member Jose Enrique Miraflores, son of former Aklan Governor and now Congressman Florencio Miraflores, and Nacionalista Party member Raymar Rebaldo also joined Cabagnot and PMP Victor Manuel Garcia, youngest son of the late Aklan Governor Roberto Garcia, Sr. for orientation session this week.
Their orientation ranged from “Existing SP Internal Rules of Procedures, Standing Committees and Composition,” to “Organizational Structure and Functional Flow in the SP” by Secretary to the Sanggunian Odon Bandiola.
The orientation program for the four new SP members elected this May 10 elections also covers topics on SP budgetary allocations in relation to the Annual General Fund and the Economic Enterprise Development Department budgets and financial grants and subsidies to be discussed by Provincial Accountant Ma. Victoria Salido, Provincial Social Welfare Officer Elma Malbas and State Auditor IV Loida Cordova.
The schedule on Wednesday is also a chance for new members coming to Aklan SP to learn about more on electronic sessions, the salient legislative accomplishments and pending vital legislations of Aklan SP presided by Vice Governor-elect Gabrielle Calizo-Quimpo.
There will be six returning SP members–Selwyn Ibarreta, Daisy Briones, Rodson Mayor, Nemesio Neron, Gerick Templonuevo and Jean Rodriquez come July 1 and are expected to assist the newcomers of Aklan SP here for the nitty-ditty crash course. (Boy Ryan B. Zabal)
