DTI intensifies monitoring of prices of school supplies
SAN JOSE, Antique – The Department of Trade and Industry intensifies monitoring of school supplies to ensure availability of stocks at reasonable and affordable prices.
DTI’s Glenn Fernando said, “with the opening of classes, students and parents are buying school supplies and other needs, so we conducted the monitoring of prices in various retailers and establishment in San Jose to ensure unscrupulous traders will not take advantage of the high demand of these commodities”.
Prices of school supplies such as notebooks, ball pens, pencil, papers etc. in the town of San Jose are stable and did not go beyond the Suggested Retail Prices (SRP).
DTI also reminds the public to be vigilant not only on the prices of their commodities but also on the quality of products they are paying for. Consumers should check on the labels, brand, chemical properties, safety performance among others including compliance to safety standards.
Secretary Jesli Lapus of DTI emphasized that it is not always economical to buy cheaper items that are easily broken or need replacement as against more expensive products that are of good quality and last longer thus, the need to carefully check the quality and labels of products before buying them.
Aside from price monitoring activities, Fernando also announced the upcoming mobile Business Name (BN) registration in the town of Bugasong on June 17, 2010. Business owners can go to the town plaza to avail of such services.
DTI has been conducting mobile Business Name registration in municipalities to make their services accessible to storeowners. BN Registration is a requirement to secure the Mayor’s Permit to operate a business. (PIA6/psm)
