I-Day spells out LGU accomplishments
ROXAS CITY – The Independence Day celebration has become a venue for the local government unit to present to the people the status of the municipality.
Mayor Roger Flores of Cuartero, Capiz said that their celebration of the Independence Day every year, which also falls on the vespers day of their religious town fiesta, is the best venue for him to deliver the State of the Municipal Address (SOMA).
He said that during the said celebration, barangay leaders and folks come together, including the senior citizens, government officials, non-government organizations and other sectoral groups, to join the event.
Part of the activities in the Independence Day celebration is the oath taking of the newly elected local officials in said town.
In his SOMA, Flores highlights the major accomplishments the local government had attained based on the crafted agenda under his administration.
Said agenda include the effective delivery of social, health and economic services, enhancement of agricultural productivity, effective and efficient fiscal management, people empowerment and shared governance, culture and arts development, and infrastructure development.
Flores revealed that in 2009, the municipality of Cuartero was awarded by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) for having achieved the universal coverage for poor households.
He said that as of now, a total of 3,727 indigent families in their town are recipients of the health insurance program.
“Our health center, which offers a 24-hour birthing services and equipped with complete laboratory facilities, is already PhilHealth-accredited,” he stressed.
Other accomplishments that were pointed out by Flores in his SOMA include the vegetable seed dispersal, agricultural technology transfer to farmer complemented with agriculture support facilities, upgrading and rehabilitation of the town’s upland road networks, infrastructure and financial support to the Department of Education, and scholarship to poor but deserving students.
On the other hand, he also disclosed that revenue generation through the upgrading of their public market, establishment of the Fire Department in their town and the on-going construction of the water supply system with funding support from the national government, are being put in place for the welfare of their people.
Meanwhile, Flores urges the public for their support and active participation in running the affairs of the local government to deliver the needed services of the community. (PIA/Jemin B. Guillermo)
