Identify cops protecting STL: Guimaras police chief
Supt. Leo Becerial, director of Guimaras Provincial Police Office, has denied the allegation that some policemen under his jurisdiction are protecting Small Town Lottery operations in the province, resulting to poor accomplishments in their fight against illegal gambling.
Records show that the GPPO has recorded only 12 arrests in the first quarter of the year despite the continued existence of STL operators in Guimaras.
STL was legalized in Iloilo City in 2006, but it is still prohibited in other provinces of Region 6. Bet collectors in Iloilo city have reportedly extended their operations to other areas in Iloilo and in Guimaras.
Becerial said that if indeed some GPPO policemen are protectors of illegal gambling, the complainant should identify those who are involved.
“Dapat maging exact sila sa information nga ginahatag nila (They should provide the right information),” he said, because it would be unfair to other policemen who are doing their job well.
Becerial said he has standing order for his men to wipe out illegal gambling in Guimaras.
“We are running against all forms of illegal gambling,” he said.
Aside of STL, other illegal numbers game such as “first-two-ball” and “daily double” are also reportedly existing in some municipalities of Guimaras.
