Police to launch ‘Cops on the Block’ on July 15
ROXAS CITY – The city police here under Supt. Leo Batiles is set to launch the Community Oriented Policing System (COPS) and the Integrated Patrol System (IPS) programs of the Philippine National Police.
These programs aim to ensure the effective performance of the general role of the police, which is to deliver the basic public safety services to the community, Batiles said in a press conference yesterday.
Dubbed “Cops on the Block, ” the initiative will include the setting up of mini-police outposts in the city where any citizen could seek police assistance through radio, telephone or even personal.
It seeks to enhance police visibility in order to reach out to the community to serve the resident a policing out; improve police community relation to gain public acceptance, build mutual respect and promote cooperation; and attend sustained and integrated police-community participation, in crime prevention and suppression.
The police outposts will be established in Brgys. Banica, Lawa-an, Punta Tabuc, Baybay, and Dayao.
Inner police outposts will be set up in Roxas Avenue, Corner Fuentes Drive-Roxas Avenue, Provincial Park, Gaisano Boulivard, Public Plaza, Teodoro Arcenas Trade Center, San Roxas Extension, Legaspi Street and Burgos-Hughes.
The components of the “Cops on the Block” are the city police, auxiliary police, traffic enforcers and aids, village chiefs and tanods and civilian volunteer organizations such as civilian volunteer radio communications and non-government organizations like Bantay Bayan.
Meanwhile, Batiles said the anti-carnapping task force is focusing their efforts on carnappers who victimize “single” motorcycles in the city.
From May to June alone, about 20 motorcycles have already been stolen.
A number of suspects have been arrested and charged in courts, the police said.
