DSWD releases P5-M aid to Ajuy typhoon victims
The Department of Social Welfare and Development recently released an assistance of P5 million to the victims of Typhoon Frank in Ajuy town.
The fund was intended for the establishment of 100 shelter units for the victims from barangays Poblacion, Pantalan Nabaye, Silagon and San Antonio. They will be transferred to the GK Village in Brgy. San Antonio, Ajuy.
“Shelter is always important for the family. This kind of project is a long-term response to your problem. The houses will be yours forever,” said DSWD Regional Director Minda Brigoli, who released the checks to individual beneficiaries at P50,000 each, in the presence of Mayor Juan Alvarez.
Under the Shelter Assistance Program, beneficiaries are provided environmentally-friendly, structurally strong shelter units that can withstand various forces of hazards such as typhoons, flooding and earthquakes using locally purchased construction materials at P50,000 per household with the Local Government Unit providing the relocation site.
In response, Alvarez committed to release P2 million as counterpart to DSWD’s fund for the site development and speedy construction of the houses.
Brigoli also swore in the officers of the Neighborhood Association of Shelter Assistance beneficiaries who will be on top of the implementation of the project. Each beneficiary will be required to render 500 hours as their sweat equity.
“We believe in the contribution of the people. We want you to pursue the completion of the shelters,” Brigoli said.
