Transport group seeks review of city’s PBO, TOP policies
The newly-formed Panay-wide Transport Alliance for Sustainable Development is asking the Iloilo city government to review the Perimeter Boundary Ordinance, and the penalties imposed on the issuance of Temporary Operators Permit.
PTASD is composed of different transport groups and owners in Panay Island.
Rey Cachuela, spokesperson of PTASD and former president of Iloilo City Alliance of Drivers’ Association, said the Sangguniang Panlungsod particularly Councilor R Leone Gerochi, chairman of the committee on transportation, communication and public utilities, needs to review the jeepney routes under the PBO.
Some municipal routes that need to be reconsidered are those of the public utility jeepneys plying Oton and Leganes towns, he said.
Presently, Oton jeepneys are allowed up to Molo plaza while Leganes jeepneys reach the fishing port area.
Cachuela said the jeepney associations want to extend their routes up to the Iloilo Terminal Market.
“Ang mga pumuluyo especially ang mga estudyante naga-antus (The commuters especially the students are suffering). They have to take two to three rides everyday before they can reach their destinations,” Cachuela told The News Today.
Moreover, Cachuela also asked the City Council to reduce the fines and penalties imposed on erring drivers through the TOP. A driver issued a TOP pays a fine of P300 to P500.
A driver’s daily average earning is only P300 to P500 because they still have to pay for jeepney rental and gasoline expenses, he said.
Cachuela said their group will meet with Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog this month to discuss their issues and concerns.
