Guv lauds young Ilonggo taekwondo jins
Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. yesterday met the two Ilonggo taekwondo medalists in the recently concluded 4th World Taekwondo Culture Expo Competition in South Korea.
At the Capitol flag raising rites, 16-year old Pablo Leda III and 13-year old Ino Lavilla, who hail from Lambunao town, were congratulated by the governor.
He also instructed Provincial Administrator Raul Banias to facilitate the giving of recognition to the two Ilonggo achievers through the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, and even considered providing monetary incentives to the two.
Their coach Ben Capadosa, a faculty member of West Visayas State University-Lambunao Campus, said Leda and Lavilla were the only players who came from the Visayas out of the 42 players comprising the Philippine team.
Leda won the gold medal in the Poomsae Blackbelt (14-16 years) and silver medal in the Kyorugi Blackbelt (14-16 years) while Lavilla got the bronze medal in the Kyorugi Blackbelt (11-13 years) and bronze medal in the Poomsae Blackbelt (11-13 years).
The 4th World Taekwondo Culture Expo Competition was held on July 2 to 7 at the Jeollabuk-do Muju in South Korea, where 1,300 jins from 31 countries vied for the awards.
Leda is a senior student at the Lambunao National High School while Lavilla is a second year student of the same school.
Capadosa said the two players have also been invited in another Taekwondo World Competition this July and also in the U.S. Open this coming November.
Capadosa acknowledged the support of the local government unit of Lambunao who have been supportive of their endeavor.
