Baldomero’s son positively identifies father’s gunman
The suspect who assassinated militant leader and Lezo, Aklan Councilor Fernando Baldomero was positively identified by his 12-year-old son in the police rogue gallery, the Police Regional Office 6 said.
Chief Supt. Samuel Pagdilao Jr., police regional director, said the Special Investigation Task Group “Baldomero” will file murder charges against suspect, Dindo Lovon Ancero, 35, a resident of Malingin, Bogo City in Cebu, and several John Does.
Baldomero’s son was an eyewitness in the murder of his father, who was also the provincial chairman of Bayan Muna.
Baldomero, 64, was shot to death by Ancero around 6:30 a.m. of July 5 in front of his house in Brgy. Estancia in Kalibo, Aklan.
The motive of the killing remains elusive to police investigators who are still looking for more evidence that will lead to the identity of the mastermind.
Baldomero’s wife, Christine Beatrice, also identified Ancero, whom she recognized as the one she had seen in the vicinity of their house days before the murder.
“The wife also said that a week before the murder of Baldomero, she saw a male person wearing sunglasses and a female wearing turban standing across their rented house in Aklan,” Pagdilao said, noting that these events established the suspicion that the suspects have been watching the movements of the victim before he was killed.
Another witness, a tricycle driver from Kalibo town, said that few days before Baldomero was murdered, he saw a man wearing a scarf on board a black motorcycle three times at the waiting shed along the national highway at Provincial Capitol.
The description of the man and the motorcycle matched that of the suspect and the motorcycle he used.
Police said Ancero was involved in illegal drug trade, bank robbery, frustrated murder, and illegal possession of firearms cases.
Pagdilao directed the Regional Intelligence Division and all intelligence operatives in Western Visayas to track down the identified suspect and ordered the SITG to continue its investigation to identify the second suspect and the mastermind.
“The investigation will not rest with the filing of murder charges against the identified suspect. PRO 6 is committed to get to the bottom of this case,” Pagdilao said.
