Private-public links for tourism pushed
The Department of Tourism is pushing for private-public partnerships in developing more tourism-related initiatives as pointed out by President Benigno Simeon Aquino III in his State of the Nation Address.
DOT Regional Director Edwin Trompeta said that for the tourism industry in the country to flourish, private-public partnership could really be a key for its realization, a report of the Philippine News Agency said.
“Let us seize the opportunity of having interested private investors to invest in our tourism industry,” Trompeta said.
He said that in this partnership, the government can provide incentives and create climate for investors to be competitive, and efficiently process the necessary documents like institutionalizing the one-stop-shop to handle this.
“If there will be a one-stop-shop then the investors would no longer undergo the tedious process for their fire clearance, mayor’s permit and zoning, they can complete it in less than one week,” Trompeta said.
The private sector has the resources which the government does not have so they can invest to realize the development plan.
Trompeta said that hopefully with the strengthened private-public partnership, more economic opportunities could be generated with more jobs provided for the people.
