5 Capiz towns top blood donors
Five municipalities in Capiz were among the 30 local government units in Western Visayas that were cited recently by the Department of Health for their active roles in the promotion of the National Voluntary Blood Services Program.
The LGUs with the highest number of blood donors in 2009 were recognized during a ceremony held at Sarabia Manor Hotel in Iloilo City.
These include Ivisan, Dao, Sapian, Pilar, and Panit-an towns in Capiz.
Other awardees are LGUs from Iloilo – Barotac Viejo, Guimbal, Concepcion, Janiuay, and Sta. Barbara; Aklan – Ibajay, Batan, Tangalan, and Nabas; Guimaras–Nueva Valencia, San Lorenzo, Buenavista, Sibunag, andJordan; Antique–Sibalom, Tobias Fornier, Hamtic, Patnongon, and Anini-y; and Negros Occidental–Don Salvador Benedicto, Himamaylan City, La Carlota City, Valladolid, Escalante City, and Cauayan.
Dr. Edgardo Silva, coordinator of the Regional Voluntary Blood Service Program of DOH 6, said for four consecutive years, Region 6 has been cited also as second placer in the entire country for the active support extended to the National Voluntary Blood Services program.
The National Blood Donors Month every July aims to raise awareness of the need for quality and safe blood, thank and honor blood donors and encourage regular blood donation.
This year’s celebration was themed “Blood” with the slogan “New Blood for the World.” PNA
