Dumarao celebrates Padagyaw Festival
DUMARAO, Capiz – The town of Dumarao under the leadership of Mayor Leslie Warren Benjamin is celebrating its municipal and religious fiesta with the Padagyaw Festival from August 1 to 5.
Benjamin said the fiesta is being held in honor of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves.
On August 1, the festivities started with an opening salvo and Fiesta ng Bayan with civic parade. The food festival will run until August 3 while the trade fair, until August 5.
A play ground demonstration will be held on August 4 and on the same day until August 5, the Vesper/Feast Day with church activities.
August 5 will mark the fiesta proper, with a fiesta disco at the town plaza.
This year’s theme is “Padagyaw sa Pagbag-o.”
Benjamin said the town fiesta is being celebrated in a simple way as there will be no national dignitary who will attend the festivities.
However, the mayor said the fiesta will be memorable as the people will rejoice in thanksgiving to God for their bounty and blessings.
Padagyaw is a native word which means the invitation of a folk of his neighbors for bayanihan, for example in erecting a nipa house for no pay but instead with eating, drinking, and joy.
