90 city villages under ‘dengue alert’
Half of the 180 villages in Iloilo City are affected by dengue, according to the Iloilo City Health Office.
The ICHO has recorded 217 dengue cases from January this year, with three deaths, including the latest in Brgy. Divinagracia in La Paz district only last Monday.
The other two deaths were recorded in districts of Arevalo and La Paz.
May Delmo of the ICHO said most of the dengue patients were children.
Delmo said the increase of dengue cases started last summer, the same as the trend last year.
The ICHO reminded the public to maintain cleanliness of their surroundings and eliminate possible dengue breeding areas.
Manifested through fever, dengue symptoms appear about four to 10 days after the mosquito bite. The onset is abrupt, and the fever is rising rapidly.
On the third or fourth day, the temperature drops to normal and the victim feels much better. After one to three days, however, the temperature again rises, and the pain and mental depression reappear. MGC
