WV seniors citizens urged to register
Senior citizens in Western Visayas are urged to register in the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs in their respective cities and towns to avail of discounts and privileges, the Department of Social Welfare and Development said.
Regional Director Minda Brigoli said that senior citizens are valuable members of the community and must be given proper health care.
The senior citizens should be encouraged to register with the OSCA in their area since this will be very helpful in their hospital and medical needs, she added.
Gerardo Cañonero, president of the Federation of Senior Citizen’s Association of the Philippines- Iloilo City Chapter, said the OSCA will help the senior’s facilitate their identification cards.
The OSCA will also be able to monitor their whereabouts, as well as provide them with the discount booklets and other perks, said Cañonero, former president of OSCA office of Iloilo City.
Perla Haro, DSWD focal person for the elderly in the region, said the senior citizen’s ID is important so that the elderly can avail of the 20 percent discount in buying medicines and other services.
Haro said they target 100 percent of the senior citizens to have their ID as soon as possible. She also said that families of the senior citizen’s should also help them avail of the senior citizen’s ID.
The DSWD here said that there are around 349,302 monitored and registered senior citizens in the region. Some 71 percent or 247,590 senior citizens have a senior citizen’s ID. PNA
