Capiz info group initiates village disaster mgmt. drive
ROXAS CITY – “Hinun-anon sa Barangay,” a community-based information drive, will be launched the Capiz Association of Government Public Information Officers (CAGPIO) this month in Brgy. Talon here.
The CAGPIO has been organized by the Philippine Information Agency since the 1980s and has been actively involved in government information activities.
CAGPIO President Julius Abela of the Department of Public Works and Highways said through the barangay forum, the national and local governments would be able to bring their information services for public awareness as well as gather feedbacks from the people in the area.
“We need to go directly to the people especially in the depressed and remote barangays so that we would be able to listen to their needs and feedback the same to our respective higher officers for possible solution,” Abela said
The information campaign will focus on disaster preparedness and management, particularly on diseases, earthquake, fire, flood and the like.
Other government agencies will also present their roles and functions through its respective public information officers.
The Hinun-anon sa Barangay is one of the flagship programs of the CAGPIO for several years now.
During President Benigno Simeon Aquino’s inaugural speech, he said “we will design and implement an interaction and feedback mechanism that can effectively respond to the people’s needs and aspirations.”
Abela said the community-based interaction is the Association’s response to the call of President Aquino to listen to the needs of the people, particularly on information.
Among the villages where the barangay fora were already conducted are barangays San Nicolas in Tapaz, Tabun-acan in Pilar, Agustin Navarra in Ivisan, Burias in Mambusao, Manggoso in Sigma, and in Milibili, Culajao and Olotayan Island in Roxas City. PIA
