City gov’t. pledges support to civic group
ROXAS CITY – The Roxas City Plaza Chess Association has gained the support of City Mayor Angel Alan Celino.
During the association’s induction ceremony, Celino pledged to support the activities of the civic organization by helping them put up a chess center here.
Director Benny Cortes said the mayor also plans to launch an inter-barangay chess tournament whose winners will vie for the championship finals during the Sinadya sa Halaran festival in December.
The Roxas City Plaza Chess Association Inc. is the mayor’s first recognized civic organization after assuming office last June 30.
Celino urged the association to apply for accreditation as a non-government organization in the Sangguniang Panlungsod to take active participation in local programs and activities, Cortes said.
Inducted into office by Celino were Manuel Cambe, president; Ben Billones, vice president; Donato Arce, secretary; Fajardo Olandres, treasurer; Junmar Natanuan, auditor; Aladin Ignacio and Ramelo Villanueva, business managers; Nicolas Basa, press relations officer; and Noel Clarito and Romeo Capunong, peace and order officers.
The board of directors is composed of Edito Saludaga as chairman, with Jose Albaladejo, Ariel Andrada, Engr. Neil Panelo, Ildefonso Borreros, Vicente Corros, Walden Ruefa and Rommel Arellano as members.
Aside from Cortes, the board of advisers include Councilors Erwin Sicad and Matthew James Viterbo, and Jessie Dalisay, John Mejorada, Jose Aldea and Engr. Midelo Ocampo.
The Department of Education coordinators are Ronilo Tu and Pio Bengan, Jr.
Cambe expressed gratitude to the city officials for supporting the association in its efforts to be a partner in development programs, particularly in sports.
