Dengue outbreak declared in Roxas
ROXAS CITY – The Sangguniang Panlungsod has declared a dengue outbreak in this city after its dengue hemorrhagic fever cases reached 444, with five deaths.
Mayor Angel Alan Celino requested the City Council to conduct a special session Saturday morning to declare a dengue outbreak.
Last week, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan on its special session approved a resolution declaring a state of calamity in Capiz and its component city, Roxas City, because of the high dengue cases in the province.
Gov. Victor Tanco Sr. also requested the Provincial Board to pass a resolution that would allow the provincial government to use its five percent calamity fund to help the dengue patients.
Board Member Remia Fuetes Bartolome proposed the resolution which was approved by her colleagues during the special session.
Last Monday, the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council held an emergency meeting to come up with an action plan to impede the increase of dengue cases in Capiz.
Dengue cases in Capiz have reached 1,535 with 12 deaths. The latest fatality was a three-year-old boy from Brgy. Tanza here.
OPLAN PATAY LAMOK
Meanwhile, the city government created a task force called Oplan Patay Lamok that will spearhead activities to destroy mosquito larvae habitat and cycle.
The composite team is made up of city and barangay officials as well as representatives from the Department of Health, City Engineer’s Office, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, non-government organizations, volunteer groups, media, and Philippine Red Cross.
Some of its major activities include actual visitation and inspection of affected barangays; misting or fogging; providing households with mosquito nets and mosquito repellants; and coverage of process fee of indigents for blood and blood products through a special arrangement with PRC.
Each barangay will also be required to donate at least 10 bags of blood per month until the outbreak is restrained.
The Capiz Epidemiological Surveillance and Response Unit of the Provincial Health Office revealed that Roxas City remains on top of all dengue affected areas.
It is followed by Dao with 139 cases; Pontevedra, 105; President Roxas, 92; Dumalag, 88; Panay, 87; Pilar, 86; Cuartero, 68; Maayon, 64; Panitan, 63; Mambusao, 54; Sigma, 47; Jamindan , 38; Dumarao, 33; Ivisan, 33; Tapaz, 20; and Sapian, 16.
