Love or leave post, traffic enforcers told
Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has advised the city’s 200 traffic auxiliaries to love their work or get sacked.
Mabilog, who was stuck in a traffic jam recently, said it took several minutes before an auxiliary and a traffic policeman responded to a traffic incident resulting from a collision.
“Traffic auxiliaries should be in their places to immediately decongest traffic and to respond to any traffic problem,” he said.
Mabilog added that traffic aides should do their mandated functions or they can look for another job.
“The city has no place for lax and abusive traffic aides,” he said.
Mabilog said the city government is paying these auxiliaries to implement and enforce traffic rules and regulations.
“A traffic aide should not hide in the shade of buildings or under the trees but should be in the middle of the street or at conspicuous places along the streets where vehicle drivers and pedestrian may see him immediately,” he said.
Mabilog identified some congested areas in the city, including those near the plaza areas, along the busy streets fronting schools, and near the provincial capitol, city hall, and Gen. Luna Street.
