P500 pension for indigent senior citizens needs okay
Indigent senior citizens can avail of the P500 pension every month once the budget allocated for this project will be approved in national level, the Department of Social Welfare and Development 6 said.
Currently, 349,302 senior citizens are registered in Western Visayas.
Of the number, Iloilo Province has the most members with 92,973 followed by Negros Occidental with 79,320; and Iloilo City, 54,122.
Capiz has 36, 642 registered senior citizens; Bacolod City, 34,385; Aklan, 18,099; Antique, 16,756; Guimaras, 9,920 and Roxas City, 7,085.
DSWD Regional Director Minda Brigoli said she is very optimistic that the budget will be approved shortly.
Last year, 90,202 indigent senior citizens in Western Visayas availed of the “Tulong Para kay Lolo at Lola.” The amount released totaled P 45.101 million.
“I’m sure this year, the project will be beneficial once again to all senior citizens who could not afford to work for their needs,” she said.
The local Office of the Senior Citizen Affairs will determine the indigent senior citizens. MGC
