Visayas invention contest starts Aug. 12
The 2010 Visayas Islands Invention Contest of the Department of Science and Technology will start on August 12 at the Amigo Terrace Hotel, Iloilo City with over 80 inventors participating, from Regions 6, 7, and 8.
DOST 6 Director Rowen Gelonga said the Visayas Island Invention Contests and Exhibits is a competition that serves as elimination/qualifying round for the National Invention Contest in November.
The activity carries the theme, “Filipino Inventions and Innovations: the Way Forward,” seeks to recognize and promote the Filipino Inventors’ ingenuity and creativity.
The inventors will display their inventions from August 12 to 13 and will compete in six categories, namely, Invention (Tuklas Award), Utility Model; Industrial Design; Creative Research (Likha Award); Student Creative Research (Sibol Award) for High school and Student Category Research (Sibol Award) for college.
A DOST contest guideline said it is open to all inventors, makers, designers and creative researchers who are Filipino citizens residing in the Visayas.
The two-day event will also include Technical Sessions on various topics, like Research Conceptualization and Proposal Packaging.
On August 13, the sessions will include Intellectual Property Rights Awareness, Patent Application, Patentability and Granting Procedure, TAPI Assistance Programs for Inventors, and Land Bank of the Philippines Financing Program for Inventors.
