Infra body holds hearing on substandard roads
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan committee on infrastructure chaired by Board Member June Mondejar recently conducted series of hearings on the newly rehabilitated Aleosan Road and two other roads being complained as substandard and now have longitudinal cracks.
Mondejar said the committee hearings have been attended by the barangay captains, municipal engineers and officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways.
The Aleosan Road, which is connected to the city of Iloilo, is a vital link of the three municipalities Alimodian, Leon and San Miguel. The rehabilitation started last year on a piecemeal scheme.
Sections of the road that were completed early of this year are Bgy. Jibao-an of Pavia, Poblacion, Igtambo and San Antonio of San Miguel, Buhay, Bancal and Lanot of Alimodian and Agboy Norte, Agboy Sur and Talacuan of Leon.
“Problem is some portions of this newly rehabilitated road have cracks that are deteriorating,” Mondejar said.
He said the mayor of Leon himself informed him about the deteriorating condition of road that is why he tackled it on his privilege speech during their three previous regular sessions.
Mondejar said aside from the Aleosan road, they also tackled during their committee hearings the same problem with the nine-kilometer New Lucena-Sta. Barbara road which has been funded by former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo with P 126 million as one of her pump-priming projects and the 1.7 kilometers of the Duyan-duyan national road in Sta. Barbara worth P 24 million.
He said with the committee hearings conducted, they hopefully could come up soon with a recommendation on what action to take.
Mondejar said he would like a case to be filed at the Office of the Ombudsman because of the immense problem on substandard roads with the Department of Public Works and Highways as the supervising department in road construction.*PNA
