Treñas upbeat on city redistricting
Iloilo City Rep. Jerry Treñas is positive that House Bill No. 2061 calling for the reapportioning of the lone legislative district and the Sangguniang Panlungsod of the city will be approved by the House and eventually by the Senate.
The bill calls for redistricting of Iloilo City into two separate congressional districts with separate allocation of the priority development assistance fund for each congressman, one city mayor, one vice mayor and eight city councilors for each district starting in 2013.
Treñas said the bill already hurdled the first reading with the House committee on local government and will eventually find its way with a similar version at the Senate committee on local government chaired by Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
He said the bill when enacted into law, is very beneficial to the people of Iloilo City and development projects will flourish in both districts.
Treñas, a first termer congressman, is the chairman of the committee on good governance and public accountability, senior vice chairman of the committee on local government, and member of the House committees on information and communications technology; ecology, ways and means; energy; and tourism.*PNA
