FCU marks 106th founding year
ROXAS CITY – Filamer Christian University will celebrate its 106th founding anniversary and first year as university starting today until August 27.
One of the highlights is the investiture of Dr. Expedito Señeres as the first president of FCU at 9 a.m. today at the university gym.
The program will also include the administration of the oath and imposition of the Presidential Cage by Dr. Nona Ricaforte, commissioner of Commission on Higher Education with Rev. Eliseo Fantilaga, FCU chairman of the board.
Dr. Virginia Resurreccion, CHED regional director, with Dr. Salvio Lannera, chair of FCU Task Force, will present the university medallion and mace.
Señeres will also deliver his inaugural address.
The investiture rites will be followed by the unveiling of the university marker at the fountain, after which a fellowship launch will be held at Roblee Hall.
Last month, FCC was granted a university status under the name Filamer Christian University.
Señeres said they have met all the standards and other requirements set by the CHED in the granting of a university status.
FCC was the first school so far that was granted a university status within a year of its application, he said.
He acknowledged the efforts of Dr. Salvio Llanera for spearheading the task force that worked for the school’s university status.
The school started in 1904 as a home for orphans and poor children, named as the Capiz Home School, under the care of the American Baptist missionaries offering elementary education.
It was in 1949 that the school was raised to the high school level and became Filamer Christian Institute in 1952, a combination of words Filipino and American, in establishing and running the joint venture in Christian education and cooperation.
In 1985, Filamer Christian Institute became officially known as Filamer Christian College.
“After 106 years of providing quality education in a Christian atmosphere coupled with hardwork and by the grace of God, we have attained our dream of becoming a university, the first private school university in Capiz,” Rev. Eliseo Fantilaga said.*
