More than 1,000 Capiceños donated blood in July
ROXAS CITY – One thousand fifty two Capiceñas donated blood in July based on the recent blood services accomplishment report of the Philippine Red Cross-Capiz Chapter.
The report includes the eight mass blood letting activities sponsored by the Department of Agrarian Reform Employees Association, Sugar Central Employees in President Roxas, Philippine National Police, municipal governments of Dao and Cuartero, barangay councils of Poblacion Sur, Ivisan and San Roque, Dumalag and Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines in Roxas City.
PNRC-Capiz Administrator Nelia Cartujano said there is an increase of blood donors last month due to high demand for blood because of the rise in dengue cases in the province.
“July has also been a Blood Donors Month,” she said.
The PRC-Capiz Chapter dispenses 40 to 50 bags of blood a day for blood transfusion of critically-ill dengue patients.
Gov. Victor A. Tanco Sr. has committed to subsidize the payment of processing fee at the PRC for at least three bags of blood to every indigent dengue-patient.
The provincial government has also distributed about 100 beds and mosquito nets to government hospitals in line with its efforts to contain the dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
Provincial Health Office records show the province has registered 2,068 dengue cases with 18 deaths from January to August 14 this year.
Dengue patients have also crowded hospitals in the province.*PIA
