Serve as good example, guv tells new IPPO chief
Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. urged newly installed Iloilo Provincial Police Office director, Senior Supt. Gil Lebin, to serve as a good example to his men.
Defensor also asked Lebin and the policemen under the IPPO to consider their work as a sacrifice and to live on their salaries.
“I want to see reform not only in the way they perform their duties but also in their values. They should be honest and transparent so that the people will respect them,” he said.
Defensor told reporters that despite the successful operations against robbery groups recently, peace and order is still a problem in the province.
There are still a number of robberies and hold-up cases that remain unsolved. “I want more commitment, dedication and focus from our police,” Defensor said.
The governor said among the first directives he gave to Lebin was to address the rampant illegal fishing activities in the coastal towns.
He also wants the police to intensify operations against illegal drugs and illegal gambling.
Defensor said that he expects the police to also help the military in addressing the insurgency problem.
Crisis Training
Meanwhile, Defensor said that policemen in the province should also have training on crisis management so they will be adequately prepared to deal with situations like the Manila hostage incident.
“This should have been done before. These policemen should (undergo) so they will know what to do,” he lamented.
The governor also pledged to extend assistance to the IPPO if such training will require financial aid.*MGC
