Capiz launches Family Health Month
ROXAS CITY – The Capiz provincial government launched the Family Health Month celebration on August 26 at the Gerry Roxas Foundation Resource and Convention Center in Brgy. Dayao here.
The celebration dubbed “Capiztahan sa Ika-ayong Lawas” (Capiz fiesta for good health) aimed to generate public awareness and the local officials’ commitment of support to improve family health program in the province.
“Strengthening every family’s health is the priority of the provincial government. I believe that the healthier our citizens, the more productive they are,” Capiz Gov. Victor Tanco Sr. said in his message.
Tanco also underscored his administration’s initiative of declaring the month of August as Family Health Month in the province which elicited cheers and applause from the audience composed mostly of healthcare services workers.
The declaration is embodied in Tanco’s Executive Order No. 42 issued last August 12.
Health Assistant Regional Director Marlyn Convocar lauded Tanco for the EO as she discussed the 2008 National Demographic and Health Survey results.
NDHS is a nationwide representative survey of women aged 15 to 49 years.
She said that more than half of surveyed women want no more children citing the increased contraceptive prevalence rate result of the survey.
A latest Pulse Asia nationwide survey on Reproductive Health noted that 5 out of 10 Filipino couples want to have no more children while 7 out of 10 really want to practice family planning.*PIA
