Ex-mayor, 2 others to face criminal, administrative raps
ROXAS CITY – Former Roxas City Mayor Vicente Bermejo, Liga President Wilson Acervo, and Olutayan Brgy. Captain Manuel Aninang are facing criminal and administrative charges for allegedly taking the logs impounded beside the city hall for their personal use.
This developed after Councilor Julius Abela, chairman of the committee on good government, came up with a report implicating Bermejo, Acervo and Aninang in the case of the missing logs.
The committee report, according to a City Hall source, will be the basis of Abela to recommend the suspension of Acervo and Aninang in the next regular session.
The logs were seized by the city government during the stint of Mayor Antonio del Rosario, now first district congressman, from Paul Jude Belo who was charged of illegal logging at the public land adjacent to his lot in the boundary of Ivisan, Capiz several years ago.
However, the case against Belo was dismissed by the court due to weak evidence that would have resulted to Belo regaining back the logs.
Meanwhile, the Bermejo camp is still mum on the issue regarding the missing logs.
However, Acervo admitted in a radio interview that he took some of the logs for the use of Brgy. Mongpong.
He said the logs were received by James Arbolado for public use, adding that it is unfair for them to be charged because they are doing good as public officials.
Acervo and Aninang supported Bermejo, who was kicked out by Liberal Party, during the recent election.
Bermejo, who run for reelection, lost.*
