Young woman kills self
A 22-year-old woman from Iloilo committed suicide after she failed to pass the Nurse Licensure Examination, whose results were announced by the Professional Regulatory Commission last Friday, according to a police report.
Police said Riza Joy Callada, a resident of Brgy. Agta, Leon town, tied a blanket around her neck and hanged herself from the ceiling inside her room.
She was found around 10 p.m. on Friday when her father came home.
The victim’s father then shouted for help while carrying his daughter’s body.
She was brought to the Aleosan District Hospital but she did not survive.
Leon Police Station chief, Insp. Rex Jabian, said the Callada family has no knowledge why the victim ended her life.
They suspected though that she got depressed when she failed to pass the nursing board exam.
The victim did not leave a suicide note. She had been texting her mother, who was working abroad, before the incident, reports said.
But their exchange was not yet known because the investigators have yet to open the victim’s mobile phone, which has a security lock.
“So far, we found no foul play on Riza Joy’s death,” Jabian said, but the Leon Police Station still requested for an autopsy on the victim’s body.*
