Jail officer nabbed for drugs
A jail officer was arrested Monday evening after he was found with illegal drugs and an unlicensed firearm while on a drinking binge at Brgy. San Isidro, Jaro, Iloilo City.
Jail Officer 2 Renato Zamora, 35, was rounded up with his two drinking buddies Lyndon Salvalosa, 45, and Roger Ruiz, 33, who were found with a knife.
Their arrest came after a resident called for police assistance complaining about a group of men who were armed.
Members of Jaro Police Station led by Senior Insp. Rene Lauron responded and frisked the suspects,
Zamora, assigned at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology District Jail in Ungka, Jaro district, was carrying an unlicensed caliber .38 revolver, a sachet of suspected shabu inside his shoe, and P8,000 cash tucked inside his sock.
He was also found with a pair of scissors, aluminum foil, and lighter.
Lauron said it is possible that the suspects were planning to have a “pot session” when they were arrested.
Salvalosa has been on authorities’ list of illegal drug personalities in the area while Zamora also has a pending case before the Iloilo City Prosecutor’s Office, according to police information.
Charges are now being readied against the three suspects who are temporarily detained at the lock-up cell of Jaro Police Station.*
