Four vie for RDC 6 chairmanship
Four nominees are vying for the chair and co-chair posts of the Regional Development Council in Western Visayas.
During the RDC 6 organizational meeting in Iloilo City, the government sector composed of heads of regional line agencies and elected officials from the province and cities elected Governors Felipe Hilan Nava of Guimaras and Victor Tanco from Capiz as its nominees.
On the other hand, the private sector composed of people’s organizations, business and non-government organizations nominated Roberto Montelibano of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Ma. Luisa Segovia of the Iloilo Business Club.
The nomination was in compliance with Executive Order 325 which states that “the RDC shall nominate at least two local chief executives… and two private sector representatives from whom the President shall select and appoint the RDC chair and co-chair.”
Their names will be submitted by the National Economic and Development Authority to its central office which in turn will forward the document to the Presidential Management Staff.
The NEDA serves as the RDC secretariat and its regional director Ro-Ann Bacal is the RDC vice-chairperson.
Meantime, following the selection of nominees, the various committees of the RDC also elected their respective chairs and co-chairs during the organizational meeting.
The Development Administration Committee will be chaired by Interior and Local Government regional director Evelyn Trompeta and co-chaired by Wilfredo Homicilladas from the PROCESS Foundation while the Infrastructure Development Committee is headed by Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog with Montelibano as co-chair.
The Economic Development Committee is chaired by Trade and Industry Regional Director Dominic Abad and co-chaired by Jesraf Palmares of the Iloilo Federation for Information Technology; Social Development Committee, headed by Social Welfare Regional Director Minda Brigoli and co-chaired by Celia Matea Flor of the DAWN Foundation.
The new set of RDC officers, the region’s highest policy making body, will serve until June 30, 2013.*PNA
