Dengue cases continue to drop in Sept.–PHO
ROXAS CITY – Dengue cases in Capiz continue to subside in the first week of September, records of the Provincial Health Office show.
Based on the PHO Epidemiological Surveillance and Response Unit data, only 92 cases were monitored from August 29 to September 4, down by more than 50 percent compared to the August 22 to 28 figure of 193.
From August 15 to 21, the PHO recorded 237 while from August 8 to 14, 230.
In June, dengue cases only totaled 280 but in July, the number surged to 896, and in August, 1,057.
As of September 4, fatalities reached 18 while patients totaled 2,717, of which 891 are from Roxas City, which has also 10 deaths, including a three-year-old boy from Brgy. Burgos.
The following are the number of cases in each town: Dao, 217; Pontevedra, 157; Panay, 153; President Roxas, 127; Pilar, 116; Panitan, 153; Dumalag, 116;
Maayon, 134; Cuartero, 85; Mambusao, 79; Sigma, 77; Jamindan, 66; Dumarao, 72; Ivisan, 85; Tapaz, 43; and Sapian, 39.
Earlier, the provincial government launched the “Oplan Kontra Dengue” after Gov. Victor Tanco Sr. declared a state of calamity in the province.
The declaration allowed the provincial government to use part of its P34-million calamity fund to assist indigent dengue patients and finance dengue-control measures.
The Roxas City government also launched “Oplan Patay Lamok,” an information campaign and clean-up drive against dengue.*
