Medium-rise building mulled for informal settlers: Mabilog
The Iloilo City government is mulling the establishment of a medium-rise building at its almost five-hectare property in Molo district to accommodate informal settlers.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said there were initial talks about the plan with Sonia Cadornigara, the regional coordinator of the Homeless People’s Federation of the Philippines, which will be given a portion of the property for the establishment of a housing project under the Community-Led Infrastructure Finance Facility.
The mayor said he will send a team to San Carlos City in Negros Occidental to observe the ongoing construction of a three-storey medium-rise building intended for the city’s informal settlers.
Mabilog said the San Carlos facility costs around P5 million.
He said he is considering the construction of a four-storey building for the informal settlers in Iloilo City.
The mayor said he has instructed the Iloilo City Urban Poor Affairs Office to conduct a survey of the informal settlers in San Pedro and North San Jose, all in Molo district, and in Zone 3 of Brgy. Obrero.*PNA
