Police doubts Anilao robbery
Inconsistencies in the statements of the two persons who claimed to have been robbed Friday afternoon in Anilao, Iloilo led police investigators to doubt their claims.
Anilao Police Station chief, Senior Insp. Rogen Morales, ordered for an investigation to ascertain if Norman Roldan and Angel Magbanua, both of Brgy. Cabilauan, Barotac Nuevo town, were indeed robbed of P90,000 by two men.
Roldan is the salesman-driver while Magbanua works as a helper of Lemacel Trading Corp.
Both said they were on their way back to Iloilo City when they stopped to relieve themselves at Brgy. San Carlos.
Suddenly, two motorcycle-riding men approached them and declared hold-up.
At gunpoint, the suspects allegedly took their collection money and Magbanua’s mobile phone.
Magbanua said the robbers could have been tailing them from Banate town but Roldan did not notice their presence in the side mirror.
The two also claimed they failed to identify any of the suspects because one was wearing a helmet while the other covered his face with a towel.
But then Roldan said the motorcycle stopped behind the delivery van while Magbanua initially reported it stopped in front of their vehicle.
Morales said investigators are also puzzled why the two, who were carrying a large amount of money, opted to stop at an uninhabited area.
A barangay tanod who saw the incident also informed the police that the motorcycle was blue, contrary to the victims’ claim that it was black, he added.
Morales said even before the delivery van arrived, the tanod said the motorcycle was already parked in the area.
For his part, Roldan said it is unfair to doubt them because they are victims.*
