TF readies for 1st World Statistics Day
The Task Force created to spearhead the observance of the 1st World Statistics Day in Western Visayas on October 20 met recently to start preparations for the forthcoming event.
Director Presentacion Penpillo of the National Statistical Coordination Board 6 said the Regional Statistical Coordination Board 6 during its 1st General Assembly last August 18 agreed to respond to the United Nation’s call for support and participation in the observance of the World Statistics Day to celebrate the many achievements of official statistics and to enhance its visibility at the national and global levels.
Through RSCC Resolution No. 04, the Task Force on WSD was created composed of the National Statistics Office as chairman and Department of Foreign Affairs and National Economic Development Authority as vice chairs.
Member-agencies include the Philippine Statistical Association, NSCB, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Agricultural Statistics, Department of Health, Commission on Higher Education, Department of Education, Commission on Population, and Philippine Information Agency.
The event is doubly significant as it coincides with the observance of the National Statistics Month in the country every October.
Penpillo said the Task Force had also decided to launch a “Search for Achievers in Statistics in Western Visayas” in line with the theme of the 1st WSD “Celebrating the Many Achievements of Official Statistics” that emphasize on the core values of service, integrity and professionalism.
“This search will be the first in the region and probably, in the country, and our technical working group is now preparing the guidelines and other details of the contest,” she said.*PIA
