NPA leader killed in Negros clash
A leader of the New People’s Army was killed in a clash with soldiers at Sitio Dung-e, Brgy. Manlucahoc in Sipalay City, Negros Occidental late Tuesday afternoon, the 3rd Infantry Division of the Philippine Army said.
The Army identified the fatality as Armando Sumayang alias Pao/Joas, appointed secretary of the Communist Party of the Philippines’ Komite Rehiyon-Negros Southwest Front.
Sumayang’s body was recovered early morning yesterday at Sitio Cayamoni by members of the 31st Division Reconnaissance Company led by Capt. Albert Diaz.
Soldiers also found personal belongings and a homemade shotgun near the rebel’s body.
The encounter started after soldiers in the area received a report from disgruntled former sympathizers of the NPA that rebels of the CPP-NPA’s Sangay Partido sa Platoon-Southwest Negros were taking a rest along a creek in Manlucahoc village.
The informant said he wants an end to the group’s exploitation and abuse of their kindness as they keep on giving the rebels food.
As revealed by the informant, the rebels were indeed in the area and soldiers engaged them in a gun fight, resulting to Sumayang’s death.*
